The Missionaries of the Precious Blood
Province of the Pacific
We are….
We
are a Congregation of Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus
Christ, living the spirit of St. Gaspar del Bufalo our founder. We accompany one
another in the bond of charity. We
dedicate ourselves to proclaim the redeeming love of God, which we experience in
the mystery of the Blood of Christ. We stand with all who have been
"brought near by the Blood of Christ." We stand also with those who
remain afar that we might be a prophetic voice and a healing presence to the
Church and the World.
Somos
Mundo.
We are faithful to the tradition but are committed to giving particular care and ministry to those who have been "brought near by the Blood of Christ," and yet remain afar: those who have yet to experience conversion, reconciliation, community and liberation in God's love.
We are a Society of Apostolic Life. We are Priests and Brothers and Lay Companions, serving in the Dioceses of Oakland, Los Angeles, Monterey, and Indianapolis. We serve as missionary preachers, in retreats and missions, in Parish work, in Spiritual Direction, Education, Chaplaincy, Tribunal work and Administration.
We Believe...
The Blood of Christ is that expression of God's love that
Hope
and Dreams
We seek to embody the clear and present voice of the Blood of Christ crying out in the world, proclaiming the Word, discerning the needs of the times, living an apostolic and prophetic way of life.
The spirit and example of St. Gaspar calls us and gives us a unique role for proclamation and empowering others for proclamation. Our desire is to personify "the blood of the new and everlasting covenant:" poured out for all, embracing people of every race, language and way of life. We are missionaries, a people on the move. The world is our parish.
Background
The Society of the Precious Blood is an apostolic congregation founded in 1815 by St. Gaspar del Bufalo. We also include congregations of Women religious begun under Blessed Maria De Mattias in 1834, and Lay associations following the inspiration of Francis Albertini in 1808 and promoted by the missionaries to this day. Today there are over 500 members serving the Church throughout the world. The members of the North American provinces are involved in a wide array of ministries: both urban and rural parishes; chaplains in hospitals, college campuses, and the military; serving in foreign missions; preachers of retreats and parish missions; sponsoring institutions of higher learning; wherever the needs of the people of God are recognized.
Living
together in mission houses, united by a bond of charity instead of religious
vows, the missionaries of the Precious Blood have always been a source of
on-going renewal for the people of God and for the world.
Inquiry
Formation for those inquiring into our community includes the following areas: spiritual direction and development; community life; apostolic life; academics; and human development. Along with some history and stories of our community, resources for spiritual development and career development are provided. The inquirer is invited to community gatherings and days of prayer and is provided with the resources and tools necessary to reflect on current experiences of education and ministerial work.

"The spirituality of Saint Gaspar ... is truly at the heart of the Christian life: the Most Precious Blood of our Lord has always been the object of a special attention on the part of all the saints: it is the school of sanctity, of justice, of love... Never cease...to delve deeply into this mystery of justice and love: diffuse it into the whole world." John Paul II, October 19, 1989. As the letter to the Colossians proclaims: through Christ, God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of the cross. (Col 1:20)
